IEA

The International Energy Agency, based in Paris, is an autonomous agency linked with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Each year the Directorate of Global Energy Economics publishes the World Energy Outlook (WEO), which provides detailed global energy projections covering supply and demand by fuel and sector to 2035. The WEO outlines three scenarios reflecting different policy environments. The Current Policies Scenario describes our energy future under current energy policies and practices, while the New Policies Scenario additionally takes into account policy plans that have been announced but not yet implemented. The 450 Scenario presents an energy pathway that is consistent with actions having around a 50% chance of limiting the global increase in average temperatures to two degrees Celsius. The consequences of these three scenarios, e.g. energy security, CO2 emissions, investment requirements, trade are analysed in a forward-looking manner and policy implications are highlighted. The World Energy Model is based on the IEA's extensive historical database and covers 25 separate countries and regions and the world as a whole.
